History Of Monument
Photo of the Fire Department MemorialIn the fall of 1964, Ralph Hansen met with Fire Chief Guy Foss. Mr. Hansen was an employee of the Boston and Maine Railroad; Mr. Hansen offered the department the gift of a locomotive bell for use in a memorial, Guy accepted this offer for the department.

For several years, the bell was stored in different places including the Lehner Street fire station, the bell building, the Clark Shop and then our current Public Safety Building.

During March of 1993, the Wolfeboro Firemen’s Relief Association asked the town selectmen for approval to pursue the building of a monument in memory of fallen firefighters.  In April of 1993, we received that approval.

On October 16, 1994 the monument containing this bell was dedicated to those firefighters who have served and to those who have fallen.

This monument is in memory of all who came before and all that will come after.
