Description of Services
The Lakes Region Household Hazardous Product Facility represents two towns, Alton and Wolfeboro, working cooperatively since 2002 to maximize safe, appropriate disposal of household hazardous waste (HHW) and unwanted pharmaceuticals.

Households should visit their hometown Solid Waste Facility to get a free pass (different from a “dump” sticker) prior to attending the third Saturday of the month from May thru October at Wolfeboro, or the 2 collections in Alton.

Pet and human pharmaceuticals are collected with HHW at the 404 Beach Pond Road site during June and August. (Alton has a additional second Saturday of July HHW collection and also disposes of medicines the second Saturday of September at the Alton Transfer Station.) A special mid-winter Medicine Collection is held the 3rd Saturday of February at the Episcopal Church next to Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.  (A pass is also needed.)

Small quantity generator (businesses) disposal can be arranged with advanced notice. Call Site Coordinator, Sarah Silk at 603-651-7530.

Households from all other towns may use the facility on a cash or check basis. Fee is $45 for each 0 - 5 gallon increment counting the cans, not measuring the ounces inside; $25 for medicines.

A brief survey is administered to attendees. Medicine collections require a pharmacist, 2 police officers, and data entry inventories of prescription drugs. Therefore, they can only be collected on special days.
