Cyanobacteria Committee (CBC) Meeting


Members in attendance: Linda Murray, Paul O’Brien, Kathy Barnard, Warren Muir, Justin Chaffee, and Marie Durgan, Recording Secretary.

Members absent: Pat Tarpey, Lenore Clark, Anne Blodget, Mary  DeVries, Schelley Rondeau, Mike Turner, Nancy Byrd, and Abigail Adams.

1:00 p.m. Linda Murray called the meeting to order.

    •    Paul said the minutes should be tabled until the next meeting.
    •    Kathy made a motion for Wolfeboro Waters to be the name.  Paul added the tag line:  Wolfeboro Waters:  Protecting our greatest natural resource today and for future generations.  Linda seconded it.  The motion approved.  
    •    Kathy talked about the Milfoil Committee staying separate.  Paul said that committee is functioning, working well, and to leave it alone. There was discussion.  Linda made a motion to have the Milfoil Committee remain separate.  Kathy seconded it and the motion passed.  
    •    The Assessment Subcommittee submitted its final report for 2019.  It was sent to Lake Associations, USEPA Region I, NHDES (Amanda), UNH & Bigelow Labs.  Warren said some provided comments.  The summary highlights the data.  Information storing was discussed. It was mentioned the official document can be at the public library.  Kathy made a motion seconded by Justin to review & approve the Assessment Subcommittee information.  The motion passed.  Warren mentioned Amanda from NHDES will be doing Cyanobacteria next summer and NHDES will be hiring a new beach person.  The state will do toxin analyses quickly.  Amanda & Warren went to Bigelow Labs in East Boothbay, Maine last week.  Bigelow Labs got a 5 year grant from the National Science Foundation.  They will be able to do toxic analyses also.  Warren mentioned that NH has over 1000 lakes.  He said Amanda is interested in partnering with us.  
    •    Paul reported on the Communications Committee.  He said he are waiting to see the final buckets that Keith is working on.  The website is working in sandbox mode.  Dave Bowers is working on a 150 word introduction about each of the lakes.  Russ Schundler is taking visual shots of each lake.  Marie is the collector of the data.  Paul is hoping to fire it up mid-March .  Keith will deliver by April 1st.  
    •    Warren & Abby met on Cyanobacteria & Water Quality, 2 pieces for the website.  Abby is meeting with Keith.
    •    Paul was talking about the action buttons, sign me up, & tell me more.    
    •    Discussion about prevention and mitigation was held.  
    •    Talk about a subgroup promoting Winter Harbor.  Winter Harbor Association.  How can we promote it in the Winter Harbor area?
    •    Discussion about a 2020 work plan.  
    •    Paul made a motion to adjourn the meeting seconded by Kathy at 2:27 pm.
