Identifying Cyanobacteria Blooms

The State of Vermont has produced a short video to educate folks which you can watch at the bottom of this page. In it you will find valuable information on how to identify a Cyanobacteria bloom and distinguish it from pollen, green algae, or lake weeds.

If you suspect that you see a cyanobacteria in Wolfeboro Waters CONTACT:
NHDES at 603-848-8094 AND the WOLFEBORO DISPATCH CENTER at 603-569-1444

(do NOT call the number mentioned in the above Vermont video!)

Be prepared to provide them with the following information:
∙ who is calling,
∙ your contact information,
∙ what you have seen,
∙ where,
∙ when,
∙ if any pictures were taken of the possible bloom, and
∙ whom, if anyone, you have contacted.

While the suspected bloom is being investigated:
Do not wade or swim in the water
Do not drink the water (even you boil it)
Do not let pets into or near the water.
